Stefanie Antunes is a visionary in the childbirth field. She leads the Discover Birth organization providing a variety of services to expectant parents and training for those wishing to pursue work in the childbirth field. Stefanie is president of the Ontario Association of Doulas, former Public Relations Director for DONA International,  and sits on many local boards and coalitions to improve our communities. She is a DONA-approved Birth Doula Trainer. Stefanie is the founder of The Birth Doula Program at the Scarborough Hospital.

 Stefanie is a contributing author in the best selling Power of Women United and Bearing Witness: Childbirth Stories Told by Doulas. She is a regular contributing writer and blogger, and has done many interviews online and for TV/radio.

Circadian Rhythms and Time-Restricted Eating

 

Dr. Panda is a Professor at the Salk Institute, where his research focuses on circadian rhythm in health and disease. His discoveries are among the top ten breakthroughs of the year by the Science magazine, and he is considered as one of the top 50 influential scientists in the book “Brain Trust”. Research in his lab has shown the profound impact of ambient light and daily eating-fasting rhythm on the prevention and management of chronic diseases and cancer. Currently, his lab has developed a freely available research app to study how our daily timing eating, sleeping and physical activity affect our health. Anyone can sign up for the study at mycircadianclock.org.

This Week on The Health Hub…Lorene Sauro

The Connection Between Gut Health and Obesity

 

Lorene Sauro, RHN, has been a food professional for over 25 years and a holistic nutritionist for 17 years. As a food professional, owning her own bakery, she spent years working with organic farmers to help start a farmer’s market in Toronto, and organizing Feast of Fields, an event to promote organic farmers and raise money and awareness for environmental causes. A health crisis led her to study nutrition and become a holistic nutritionist. She is a teacher at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition and is active in the holistic nutrition profession, working with the Canadian Association of Holistic Nutrition Professionals. She is the author of A Pastry Queen Goes Green, a baking book where Lorene has put everything she ever knew about baking into one spot and it includes a holistic nutrition spin. She is also founder of the Healthy Gut Program and the Healthy Hormone program for practitioners and the Simple Fermentation Online Workshop, for consumers.

She currently combines her love of food and her nutrition knowledge to promote sustainable methods for growing and preparing food. As a writer and speaker, Lorene loves to communicate, through her website, programs and events, the information that consumers and practitioners need to help them get more from their food and enjoy their life.

Osteoporosis: Building Better Bones

Margie Bissinger

 

Margie Bissinger is a physical therapist and integrative health coach. She has worked with clients in the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis for over 20 years. She is the author of Osteoporosis: An Exercise Guide which has sold over 100,000 copies. Margie is the creator of Move Today, a statewide exercise program in NJ and Happy Bones, Happy Life™ online program for people to prevent and treat osteoporosis and osteopenia. Margie helps people achieve optimal bone health through whole foods, exercise, and mind-body relaxation techniques. She is a member of the NJ Interagency Council on Osteoporosis and an Ambassador to the National Osteoporosis Foundation.

 Margie received a bachelor of science degree in physical therapy from the University of Pennsylvania and a master of science degree in Orthopedic Physical Therapy from Northwestern University. Margie has furthered her expertise by studying nutrition and health coaching at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York City.
