Leah is a Black Kreyol farmer, author, mother, and food justice activist who has been tending the soil and organizing for an anti-racist food system for over 20 years. She currently serves as founding co-executive director of Soul Fire Farm in Grafton, New York, a people-of-color led project that works toward food and land justice. The work of Leah and Soul Fire Farm has been recognized by the Soros Racial Justice Fellowship, Fulbright Program, Grist 50, and James Beard Leadership Award, among others. Her book is a love song for the land and her people

He lives in Sacramento, CA with his wife and daughter.

Ariel Garten is a psychotherapist, neuroscientist, mom, former fashion designer and the female founder and visionary of an amazing and highly successful tech start-up Muse. Muse lets you know when you are doing it right. This Week on The Health Hub…The Impact of Exercise on Intestinal Health with Dr. Sara Campbell

Dr. Campbell is an Associate Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Health. She received her BS and MS from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania and PhD from Florida State University. Following her PhD she completed a three-year postdoctoral fellowship supported by the USDA. Currently, the Campbell research focuses on two lines of inquiry related to exercise and the intestine. The first includes how exercise impacts the gut microbiome. The microbiome is an expanding area of research focused on how high-fat diets alter the gut microbiome and how this impacts systemic health. Their second line of inquiry is focused on providing an understanding for how changes in the microbiome impact intestinal health and ultimately disease state.

  • How does exercise modify gut microbes?
  • What types of exercise have the best benefit on gut microbes?

Kelly Dorfman is one of the world’s foremost experts on using nutrition therapeutically to improve brain function, energy and mood.  She works collaboratively with other medical professionals to help people develop creative strategies to address complex ailments and symptoms.  After identifying core issues she employs tried-and-true strategies grounded in research to attain the best results over time. One of Kelly’s special interests is children.  Her award winning book, Cure Your Child With Food: The Hidden Connection Between Nutrition and Childhood Ailments, was reissued by Workman Press in June 2013. Kelly holds a master’s degree in nutrition/biology and is a licensed nutrition dietitian. She resides with her husband in Virginia. They are the parents of three grown children.
