{"id":7641,"date":"2021-02-25T10:00:21","date_gmt":"2021-02-25T10:00:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cathybiase.com\/?p=7641"},"modified":"2020-11-20T23:12:05","modified_gmt":"2020-11-20T23:12:05","slug":"three-must-eat-breakfast-foods","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cathybiase.com\/index.php\/2021\/02\/25\/three-must-eat-breakfast-foods\/","title":{"rendered":"Three Must Eat Breakfast Foods"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">Do you love your breakfast?\u00a0 Do you have a short list of \u201cgo-to\u201d recipes?\u00a0 Do you need a bit of inspiration to start eating breakfast again?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">If so, read on!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">Getting some protein at each meal can help with blood sugar management, metabolism and weight loss.\u00a0 This is because protein helps you feel fuller longer and uses up a bunch of calories to absorb and metabolize it.\u00a0 So I&#8217;m going to show you how to get the protein, as well as some veggies and healthy fats for your soon-to-be favourite new \u201cgo-to\u201d breakfasts.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #9dbfad;\"><u>Breakfast Food #1: Eggs<\/u><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-7643 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/cathybiase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/eggs-3183410_640-300x188.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"188\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cathybiase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/eggs-3183410_640-300x188.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cathybiase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/eggs-3183410_640.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Eggs are the \u201cquintessential\u201d breakfast food.\u00a0 And for good reason!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">No, I&#8217;m not talking about processed egg whites in a carton.\u00a0 I mean actual whole \u201ceggs\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">Egg whites are mostly protein while the yolks are the real nutritional powerhouses.\u00a0 Those yolks contain vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and healthy fats.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">Eggs have been shown to help you feel full, keep you feeling fuller longer, and help to stabilize blood sugar and insulin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">Not to mention how easy it is to boil a bunch of eggs and keep them in the fridge for a \u201cgrab and go\u201d breakfast when you&#8217;re running short on time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">And&#8230;nope the cholesterol in eggs is not associated with an increased risk of arterial or heart diseases.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">One thing to consider is to try to prevent cooking the yolks at too high of a temperature because that can cause some of the cholesterol to become oxidized.\u00a0 It&#8217;s the oxidized cholesterol that&#8217;s heart unhealthy.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #9dbfad;\"><u>Breakfast Food #2: Nuts and\/or Seeds<\/u><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-7644 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/cathybiase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/nuts-3248743_640-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cathybiase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/nuts-3248743_640-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cathybiase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/nuts-3248743_640.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Nuts and seeds contain protein, healthy fats, vitamins, minerals, and fiber.\u00a0 Nuts and\/or seeds would make a great contribution to breakfast.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">And I know you won&#8217;t be fooled by \u201ccandied\u201d nuts, sweetened nut\/seed butters, or chia \u201ccereals\u201d with added sugars \u2013 you know I&#8217;m talking about the real, whole, unsweetened food here.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">Nuts and seeds are also the ultimate fast food if you&#8217;re running late in the mornings.\u00a0 Grab a small handful of almonds, walnuts, or pumpkin seeds as you&#8217;re running out the door to start your day!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">Not to mention how easy it is to add a spoonful of nut\/seed butter into your morning breakfast smoothie.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">Hint: If you like a creamy latte in the mornings try making one with nut or seed butter.\u00a0 Just add your regular hot tea and a tablespoon or two of a creamy nut or seed butter into your blender &amp; blend until frothy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #9dbfad;\"><u>Breakfast Food #3: Veggies<\/u><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-7645 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/cathybiase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/vegetables-790022_640-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cathybiase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/vegetables-790022_640-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cathybiase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/vegetables-790022_640.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">Yes, you already know you really should get protein at every meal including breakfast; but this also applies to veggies.\u00a0 You know I would be remiss to not recommend veggies at every meal, right?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">Veggies are powerhouses of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, phytochemicals, fiber, and water.\u00a0 You can&#8217;t go wrong adding them into every single meal of the day so if you don&#8217;t already you should definitely try them for breakfast!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">And no, you don&#8217;t need to have a salad or roasted veggies for breakfast if you don&#8217;t want to but you totally can!\u00a0 You wouldn&#8217;t be breaking any \u201cofficial\u201d breakfast rules or anything like that.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">Adding some protein to leftover veggies is a great combination for any meal.\u00a0 Including breakfast.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">I&#8217;ve included a delicious recipe below for you to try (and customize) for your next breakfast.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #9dbfad;\"><u>Recipe (Eggs &amp; Veggies): Veggie Omelet<\/u><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\"><em><strong>Serves 1<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">Ingredients<\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">1 teaspoon coconut oil<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">1 or 2 eggs (how hungry are you?)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">\u00bc cup veggies (grated zucchini and\/or sliced mushrooms and\/or diced peppers)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">dash salt, pepper and\/or turmeric<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">Directions<\/span><\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">Add coconut oil to a frying pan and melt on low-medium heat (cast-iron pans are preferred).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">In the meantime grab a bowl and beat the egg(s) with your vegetables of choice and the spices.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">Tilt pan to ensure the bottom is covered with the melted oil.\u00a0 Pour egg mixture into pan and lightly fry the eggs without stirring.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">When the bottom is lightly done flip over in one side and cook until white is no longer runny.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">Serve &amp;
