Maybe You Need To Eat More!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">Consider this: We sleep for about 1\/3 of our life.\u00a0 That, my friends, is a significant amount of time!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">So, what happens when we sleep?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">Have you ever thought about it?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">Well I\u2019m here to tell you that there is a world of action going on as we lay supine bridging one day to the next.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #9dbfad;\"><strong><u>Brain Action<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">While we sleep our brain is working hard to process what we\u2019ve learned during the day. Research also shows that sleep may promote the removal of waste products from brain cells.\u00a0 Effectively this means that while we sleep our brains are detoxifying.<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-7595 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/cathybiase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/brain-2062057_640-300x228.jpg\" alt=\"brain\" width=\"166\" height=\"126\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cathybiase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/brain-2062057_640-300x228.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cathybiase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/brain-2062057_640.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 166px) 100vw, 166px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #9dbfad;\"><strong><u>Detoxifying and Repairing<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">While we sleep our body is also hard at work detoxifying other areas of our body, as well as repairing it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">Our liver is at its peak detox stage between 1 and 3 am and our lungs around 4am.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">And during sleep our body repairs cells, tissues and muscles. It synthesizes proteins and releases hormones.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #9dbfad;\"><strong><u>Immune System<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">While we sleep our immune system is hard at work defending us.\u00a0 It releases cytokines (proteins that fight inflammation and infection) as well as antibodies and immune cells that work to fight off harmful germs and infection.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">So, as I am sure you can surmise, sleep is not a passive passage of time.\u00a0 It\u2019s an essential piece of our health puzzle.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #9dbfad;\"><strong><u>Sleep Disruptors<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">There are many things to take a look at when you are trying to figure out why you may not be getting a good night\u2019s sleep:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">Poor sleep habits like not going to bed at a consistent time each night<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">Stress<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">Certain medications<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">External light<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">Room Temperature<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-7596 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/cathybiase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/caricature-5266230_640-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"sleep\" width=\"213\" height=\"213\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cathybiase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/caricature-5266230_640-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cathybiase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/caricature-5266230_640-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/cathybiase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/caricature-5266230_640.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 213px) 100vw, 213px\" \/><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">And I am going to offer up one more.\u00a0 A reason not often considered.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">Are you consuming <strong><em>enough<\/em><\/strong> good quality food each and every day?\u00a0 If not, this could be a contributing factor to poor sleep.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">You need to provide your body with enough of the essential nutrients that it requires to have the energy it needs to perform all of those tasks that I mentioned above.\u00a0 It&#8217;s vital for a restful sleep.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">Our activity level, metabolism, body weight and how much we sleep each night are key factors in determining how many calories we burn while we sleep.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">You can turn to calculators like <a style=\"color: #386c9a;\" href=\"https:\/\/captaincalculator.com\/health\/calorie\/calories-burned-sleeping-calculator\/\">https:\/\/captaincalculator.com\/health\/calorie\/calories-burned-sleeping-calculator\/<\/a> to help you determine more precisely how many calories you burn while sleeping but to put things into a bit of perspective here, a person weighing 150lbs may burn 400 calories during 8 hours of sleep while someone who is 185lbs may in the area of 500 calories.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">It\u2019s significant isn\u2019t it? <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">I\u2019m seeing this issue pop up more and more, especially in people who are experimenting with some form of fasting.\u00a0 Fasting can be a great tool if done properly.\u00a0 But it is not for everyone and definitely should be discussed with a practitioner who has experience in this area.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">So here is a parting tip for you if you are trying to improve your sleep.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\"> Keep a daily food journal.\u00a0 Record what and how much you eat every day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\">What you learn from it may surprise you!<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #9dbfad;\"><strong><u>References<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\"><a style=\"color: #386c9a;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nih.gov\/news-events\/nih-research-matters\/how-sleep-clears-brain\">https:\/\/www.nih.gov\/news-events\/nih-research-matters\/how-sleep-clears-brain<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\"><a style=\"color: #386c9a;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.healthline.com\/health\/why-do-we-sleep#restoration\">https:\/\/www.healthline.com\/health\/why-do-we-sleep#restoration<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\"><a style=\"color: #386c9a;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.healthline.com\/health\/calories-burned-sleeping\">https:\/\/www.healthline.com\/health\/calories-burned-sleeping<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Consider this: We sleep for about 1\/3 of our life.\u00a0 That, my friends, is a significant amount of time!
