{"id":6927,"date":"2019-12-12T15:09:52","date_gmt":"2019-12-12T20:09:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cathybiase.com\/?p=3730"},"modified":"2019-12-12T15:09:52","modified_gmt":"2019-12-12T20:09:52","slug":"kombucha-cocktail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cathybiase.com\/index.php\/2019\/12\/12\/kombucha-cocktail\/","title":{"rendered":"Try this Yummy Kombucha Cocktail!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Want a delicious holiday drink?<\/p>\n<p>Try this yummy Kombucha cocktail!<\/p>\n<p>Fermented foods boost our immune system, help to strengthen our bones, support weight loss and promote nutrient absorption.<\/p>\n<p>Kombucha is a fermented beverage that has been enjoyed for many, many years.\u00a0 It is most commonly made with black tea and sugar.\u00a0 The fermenting is done with a colony of bacteria and yeast called a &#8216;Scoby&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>As with other fermented foods, Kombucha is high in antioxidants and it packs a punch of health benefits for the gut being rich in probiotics.<\/p>\n<p>Kombucha has been studied for its anti-cancer properties.\u00a0 The tea polyphenols and antioxidants found in Kombucha were shown in these studies to prevent the growth and spread of cancerous cells.<\/p>\n<p>You can learn more about the benefits of fermented foods in my blog <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cathybiase.com\/5-reasons-to-use-fermented-foods-in-your-cancer-fighting-diet\/\">&#8216;5 Reasons to Use Fermented Foods in Your Cancer Fighting Diet&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Fermented foods are not a common staple for many people so the versatility of Kombucha makes it the perfect fermented food to start with.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cathybiase.com\/?attachment_id=4147\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4147\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4147 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/cathybiase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Untitled-design-1.png\" alt=\"fermented foods\" width=\"228\" height=\"171\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Health up your guests over the holidays and give this recipe a try!<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #386c9a;\">Kombucha Cocktail<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #386c9a;\"><em><strong>Makes 8 Servings<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #9dbfad;\">Ingredients<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>3-4 cups Kombucha (either homemade or store-bought)<\/li>\n<li>1 cup fresh orange juice (about 3-4 oranges)<\/li>\n<li>1 cup frozen cherries* (about 16-20 cherries) (raspberries or strawberries can also be used)<\/li>\n<li>1 inch piece of fresh ginger, peeled<\/li>\n<li>1\/8 tsp nutmeg<\/li>\n<li>2 tsp maple syrup or raw honey<\/li>\n<li>Dried cranberries, pomegranate seeds and orange wedges for garnish<\/li>\n<li><em>Sparkling or regular white wine (optional)<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #9dbfad;\">Directions:<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Juice the oranges and place in\u00a0 blender.<\/li>\n<li>Add the cherries, the ginger, nutmeg and maple syrup.<\/li>\n<li>Blend until smooth.<\/li>\n<li>Pour into a bowl or pitcher. Add the kombucha and stir.<\/li>\n<li>Chill for at least an hour.<\/li>\n<li>When ready to serve pour into wine glasses.
