{"id":1897,"date":"2017-06-13T22:07:00","date_gmt":"2017-06-14T03:07:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cathybiase.com\/?p=1897"},"modified":"2017-06-13T22:07:00","modified_gmt":"2017-06-14T03:07:00","slug":"living-cancer-prevention-lifestyle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cathybiase.com\/index.php\/2017\/06\/13\/living-cancer-prevention-lifestyle\/","title":{"rendered":"Living a Cancer Prevention Lifestyle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It is a staggering statistic that estimates 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be confronted with a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime. \u00a0What may be even harder to comprehend is that only 5\u201310% of all cancer cases can be attributed to genetic defects. The remaining 90\u201395% have their genesis in environmental and lifestyle factors. \u00a0Consider this:<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;The evidence indicates that of all cancer-related deaths, almost 25-30% are due to tobacco, as many as 30-35% are linked to diet, about 15-20% are due to infections, and the remaining percentage are due to other factors like radiation, stress, physical activity, environmental pollutants etc.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/18626751\">https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/18626751<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The long and short of this is that there are lifestyle choices that we can make to tilt the odds more favourably in our direction.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Quit Smoking \u00a0 <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/cathybiase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/smoking-951984_640.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1918\" src=\"http:\/\/cathybiase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/smoking-951984_640.png\" alt=\"quit smoking\" width=\"160\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Go back to the quote above,\u00a0<em>&#8220;The evidence indicates that of all cancer-related deaths, almost 25-30% are due to tobacco&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Eat Whole Foods<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Whole, unprocessed foods\u00a0give our bodies the nutrients that are needed to repair our tissues and fight off disease. \u00a0Our bodies cannot synthesize all of the nutrients that are needed to function optimally. \u00a0Proper nutrition fills in those missing pieces.<a href=\"http:\/\/cathybiase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/apple-15687_640.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1916 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/cathybiase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/apple-15687_640.jpg\" alt=\"wholefoods\" width=\"218\" height=\"145\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Keep Moving<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/cathybiase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/superhero-534120_640.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1919 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/cathybiase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/superhero-534120_640.jpg\" alt=\"moving\" width=\"242\" height=\"158\" \/><\/a>Move every day! \u00a0Walk, run, yoga. Whatever your fancy just keep moving. Movement and exercise helps you to maintain a good weight, helps bust stress, helps to manage insulin levels and helps you to get a good night&#8217;s sleep.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Manage Your Stress Level<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/cathybiase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/horse-1844792_640.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1917\" src=\"http:\/\/cathybiase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/horse-1844792_640.jpg\" alt=\"laugh\" width=\"135\" height=\"180\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ongoing stress leads to inflammation. \u00a0Ongoing inflammation can lead to disease. \u00a0(You can take a look at my <a href=\"http:\/\/wp.me\/p6GHXW-sY\">blog post<\/a>\u00a0to get a better understanding of inflammation.) \u00a0Surround yourself with positive people. \u00a0Forgive quickly. Laugh more.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Drink Less Hydrate More<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Keep alcohol consumption to a minimum and water consumption to a maximum.
