There are 2 types of inflammation that can occur within our body: <strong><em>acute inflammation<\/em><\/strong> and <em><strong>chronic inflammation.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Acute inflammation is our body&#8217;s natural response to a pathogen or to a physical injury. \u00a0Characteristics of an acute inflammatory response include pain, swelling, redness, heat and perhaps loss of function. \u00a0This type of inflammatory response is quick and generally short lived.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Chronic inflammation on the other hand is a long term response that can last for months or even years. \u00a0The possible causes of chronic inflammation include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\">poor diet<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">ongoing stress<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">lack of sleep<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">disease<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\">So why is it so important to address this type of inflammation? \u00a0The reason is this: if our body is on high alert all of the time, this <em>&#8216;always on guard&#8217;<\/em> state of being may contribute to diseases such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>heart disease<\/li>\n<li>cancer<\/li>\n<li>diabetes<\/li>\n<li>stroke<\/li>\n<li>Alzheimer\u2019s disease<\/li>\n<li>kidney disease<\/li>\n<li>chronic lower respiratory disease<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>One of the best, if not the best, ways to address and begin to dampen the flames of inflammation is through diet. \u00a0The big picture is to eat a diet of whole foods and to eliminate processed foods. \u00a0But I want to drill down for you and offer up 5 of my top foods to fight chronic inflammation.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Turmeric<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/cathybiase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/turmeric-943629_640.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1835\" src=\"http:\/\/cathybiase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/turmeric-943629_640.jpg\" alt=\"Anti-Inflammatory foods\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This once obscure plant, which is a member of the ginger family, is now mainstream. \u00a0Curcumin is the principal curcuminoid of turmeric and has powerful anti-inflammatory properties. \u00a0Use it in your dishes, smoothies, as a tea or my favourite, Golden Milk.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Bok Choy<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cathybiase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/bok-choy-1922455_640.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1834\" src=\"http:\/\/cathybiase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/bok-choy-1922455_640.jpg\" alt=\"Anti-Inflammatory foods\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Bok Choy, or Chinese cabbage, is chalk full of antioxidants as well as vitamins and minerals. \u00a0It&#8217;s a mild vegetable that is easily incorporated in to many dishes or as a tasty side dish.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Blueberries<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cathybiase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/blueberry-625265_640.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1833\" src=\"http:\/\/cathybiase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/blueberry-625265_640.jpg\" alt=\"Anti-Inflammatory foods\" width=\"640\" height=\"468\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Blueberries contain powerful flavonoids including quercetin and anthocyanins that are powerful antioxidants and anti-inflammatories.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Kefir<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1691\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1691\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cathybiase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/kefiredited.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1691\" src=\"http:\/\/cathybiase.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/kefiredited.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1691\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">cancer and gut health<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p1\">Dysbiosis is an unhealthy balance of our microbiota that can lead to inflammation.
