An award-winning author, journalist, communications expert, and TEDx speaker, Jill Sherer Murray is the founder of “Let Go For It,” a lifestyle brand aimed at improving people’s situation through the simple mantra of letting go. Her TEDx Talk, “The Unstoppable Power of Letting Go” has millions of views on YouTube and breaks down her own journey of letting go to successfully move forward.  She wrote her best-selling book, Big Wild Love: The Unstoppable Power of Letting Go, for the many people who reach out from all over the world for advice and inspiration after seeing her TEDx Talk. Jill studied improvisation comedy at the famous Second City Training Center in Chicago, wrote a popular blog called “Diary of a Writer in Mid-Life Crisis” for the former Wild River Review magazine, and she also let go of just about everything to put her weight in Shape Magazine—12 times—as part of a year-long assignment to document her weight loss journey for millions of readers. As a marketing and communications professional, she helps organizations let go for better business by educating, engaging, and inspiring audiences to action

This Week On TheHealthHub…The Science Of Achieving Goals with Dr. Emily Balcetis

Dr. Balcetis is an Associate Professor of Psychology at New York University and the author of Clearer, Closer, Better: How Successful People See the World. Emily Balcetis has been described as a pioneer of the scientific investigation of behavioral science and motivation. She leads an international team of scholars, writers, artists, and advocates. In her research, she has uncovered previously unknown strategies that increase, sustain, and direct people’s efforts to meet their goals. She has authored over 70 scientific publications and books. She has appeared as a host for National Geographic and a guest on ABC, MSNBC, and others. Her TED talk has been viewed over 4 million times. She has partnered with GE, Prudential, Lean Cuisine, Sandoz Pharmaceuticals, and other organizations on principals of motivation. Her research has been supported with several large grants from the National Science Foundation and has been featured in hundreds of TV, radio, and print outlets around the world. She has received numerous awards for her work from organizations including the Federation of Association of Brain and Behavior Scientists, the International Society for Self and Identity, the Foundation for Personality and Social Psychology, and the Society for Experimental Social Psychology. She received a Ph.D. in Social Psychology from Cornell University, where she held a Sage Fellowship.

This Week On The Health Hub…Fixing Back Pain with Dr. Stuart McGill

Dr. Stuart McGill is Distinguished Professor Emeritus (after 32 years at the University of Waterloo, Canada) who authored over 240 scientific journal papers, 4 books, and mentored over 40 graduate students during this scientific journey. Investigations in the laboratory, training centre and research clinic probed back injury and pain mechanisms, rehabilitation approaches, and performance training. As a consultant, he has provided expertise on low back injury to various government agencies, many corporations and legal firms and hundreds of professional/international athletes and teams worldwide. He is regularly referred special patient cases from the international medical community for opinion. 

 His books include Back Mechanic, written for the lay public with pain (also in 20 languages), Low Back Disorders, third edition (2016), written for clinicians, Ultimate Back Fitness and Performance, 2017, written for coaches and athletes, Gift of Injury (2018), a manual for rehabilitating the back-injured strength athlete.

Michael Boerner is the Founder and CEO of Engage Technologies Group, Inc., and has over 25 years of experience founding and leading technology & media companies. He is an entrepreneur responsible for innovating a number of short-form video-based enterprise technologies enabling data-driven video personalization & mass constituent engagement. Michael is a TEDMED 2013 Frontline Scholar, as well as a national award-winning film and video producer and technologist. He led one of the first hospital pilots to use the iPad for patient engagement the day iPad debuted on April 3rd, 2010 at the Disney Children’s Hospital in Orlando. His companies clients have included: Johnson & Johnson, CVS, Ford, Samsung, UnitedHealthcare, DePuy, Covidien, UPMC, St. Luke’s Health System, K12, Blue Cross Blue Shield MN and the Ken Blanchard Companies, to name a few. In October 2009, Michael presented a new approach to patient engagement at the prestigious Health 2.0 Conference in San Francisco and won the award for medical technology innovation in the crowded Launch! competition. Mr. Boerner was appointed by the Governor of Idaho to the Governor’s Coordinating Council for Families and Children and served on the board of directors for the National Institute of Marriage, a non-profit entity started by best-selling author, Gary Smalley, to help serve marriages facing crisis. Mr. Boerner has appeared nationally on CNN, Fox News, ABC Radio Network News, as well as numerous press articles covering his media and technology innovations. Michael’s first press coverage for entrepreneurial creativity appeared on the front page of a Gannett Newspaper when he was 14.

Dr. Traci L. Scheepstra. Traci is an award-winning teacher educator with teaching experience at three top tier Canadian universities in education and dance. She is also an educational researcher, teacher mentor, and elementary arts specialist. She received her Ph.D. from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto (OISE/UT) in Curriculum, Teaching, and Learning. Her doctoral research focused on school-related gender-based violence in elementary contexts. She also completed her Master of Arts in Dance, and an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts Studies and Dance at York University. With a career that spans three decades, Traci has taught in a variety of educational settings with learners of all ages. Her work focuses on curriculum, pedagogy and research in the fields of holistic curriculum, experiential learning, arts-based education, Indigenous knowledge, and mental health and wellness.
